The Girl Next Door Gets Off to a Hot Start

Fox Home Entertainment’s The Girl Next Door sold more than 700,000 DVDs on its first day of release, mostly driven by the unrated version. The Hollywood Reporter says DVD sales are expected to top the film’s $15 million box office gross by week’s end.

Director Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol. 2 ruled Video Store magazine’s rental chart for a second week, earning an estimated $10.53 million in the period ended Aug. 22 for a 12-day rental haul of $26.2 million. “Vol. 2” also remained the No. 1-selling DVD on VideoScan’s First Alert sales chart, with the VHS version ranking No. 11 for the week ending Aug. 22.

Johnson Family Vacation held the No. 2 position during its second week on rental shelves, earning an estimated $9.1 million last week for a 12-day rental total of $20.1 million.

Taking Lives debuted at No. 2 on VideoScan’s First Alert DVD sales chart and ranked fourth on Video Store magazine’s weekly rental chart, earning $6.7 million in rentals.
