The Longest Yard Scores on DVD

Adam Sandler comedy The Longest Yard moved to the top of the DVD sales and rental charts the week ending September 25, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The hit remake, which with a theatrical take of $158 million is the year’s No. 9 box office grosser, scored an easy victory on VideoScan’s First Alert sales chart, outselling No. 2 finisher The Adventures of Sharkboy & Lavagirl in 3-D by a margin of nearly 4-to-1.

The season-one set of Desperate Housewives debuted at No. 3, just one notch below the first season of Lost when it bowed on DVD on September 6.

The Longest Yard also topped Home Media Retailing’s rental chart for the week ending September 25, though its first-week rental take of $10.4 million amounted to just 6.6% of its theatrical earnings. Last week’s top renter, Fox’s “Fever Pitch,” slipped to No. 2, but after just two weeks in stores the romantic comedy has already generated an estimated $16.1 million, or nearly 40% of its theatrical gross.
