FX’s Trust Trailer Highlights Getty Kidnapping and Brendan Fraser

FX has released a second trailer for their upcoming series on the infamous Getty kidnapping. FX’s Trust begins in 1973 with the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III (Harris Dickinson), an heir to the Getty oil fortune, by the Italian mafia in Rome. His captors banked on a multi-million-dollar ransom. Unfortunately for Getty III, his grandfather who happens to possibly be the richest person in the world, J. Paul Getty Sr. (Donald Sutherland), doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to reclaim his underachieving grandson.

The trailer depicts the lush landscape of the Getty manor as an absolute paradise, surrounded by gorgeous greenery and the mansion itself is seemingly straight out of Netflix’s The Crown. It details the progression of the slacker grandson Getty as he delves deeper into the dangerous world of not paying your drug dealers and is ultimately taken captive for ransom. The highlight of the trailer has to be an accented and cowboy hat-wearing Brendan Fraser who speaks directly to the audience and ponders “you’d think being rich would be a breeze.”

Ridley Scott recently tackled this real-life event in last year’s All the Money in the World, which starred Michelle Williams, Mark Wahlberg and Christopher Plummer portraying Getty Sr. following the replacement of Kevin Spacey.

Trust stars Donald Sutherland, Harris Dickinson, Michael Esper, Hilary Swank, Brendan Fraser Anna Chancellor, Norbert Leo Butz, Charlotte Riley and Luca Marinelli. It is created by Simon Beaufoy and executive produced by Danny Boyle, Beaufoy and Christian Colson, with Boyle directing the first three episodes.

The series will premiere on FX on March 25th.
