Fantasmas Trailer Sets Release Date for Julio Torres HBO Comedy

HBO has released the official Fantasmas trailer for its newest comedy series, starring former Saturday Night Live writer Julio Torres. The six-episode first season is slated to debut on June 7 on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. New episodes will debut weekly.

“In the series, Julio Torres spins a fantastical six-part tale of when he lost a gold oyster earring,” reads the logline. “In his search to find the precious object, Julio reflects on the offbeat characters he encounters in introspective, often eerie, and always comedic vignettes set in a dreamy, alternate version of New York City. A kaleidoscope of color and surrealism, FANTASMAS weaves together stories of people looking for meaning, purpose, and connection in an increasingly isolating world.”

Who’s involved in Fantasmas?

Fantasmas is created, directed, and written by Julio Torres. Joining Torres are Martine Gutierrez as Vanesja, Tomas Matos as Chester, and Joe Rumrill as the voice of Bibo. As seen in the trailer, the series will feature lots of guest stars, including Steve Buscemi, Paul Dano, Julia Fox, Alexa Demie, Emma Stone, Dylan O’Brien, Aidy Bryant, Bowen Yang, Kim Petras, Ziwe, and more. It is executive produced by Torres, Stone and Dave McCary along with Alex Bach, Daniel Powell, Olivia Gerke, and Ali Herting.

This marks Torres’ latest collaboration with the network after previously working together on the Spanish-language comedy series Los Espookys, which Torres co-created, written, and starred in. Prior to Fantasmas, he recently made his feature-length directorial debut with A24’s Problemista.
