A new clip from the upcoming series Leonardo has been released, featuring Aidan Turner (The Hobbit, Poldark) as Leonardo da Vinci in the drama co-created by Frank Spotnitz (The Man in the High Castle). You can check out the video below (via Deadline)!
The clip, released to celebrate the birthday of the great artist, engineer, and inventor, highlighting Turner’s character learning his craft as an apprentice before setting to work on The Last Supper. The video also features footage directed by Dan Percival and Alexis Sweeet as well as a score by John Paesano.
Steve Thompson (Sherlock, Doctor Who) co-created the series which also stars Golden Globe nominee Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor, Bates Motel, Finding Neverland) as a fictional young detective named Stefano Giraldo. Highmore will also executive produce through his company Alfresco Pictures.
“It’s both a challenge and an honour to dramatize the life of one of the most fascinating people who ever lived. Leonardo is constantly surprising, and despite his fame remains an enigma more than 500 years after his death. We’ve uncovered sometimes little-noticed clues about Leonardo’s life and pieced them together in a puzzle that attempts to reveal the humanity behind the genius,” said Spotnitz.
Luca Bernabei, CEO of Lux Vide and producer, added: “Leonardo’s story invites us to believe in humanity, in its extraordinary abilities and the possibility of looking to the future beyond those horizons that today appear as overwhelming obstacles.”
Leonardo, telling the story of the 15th/16th century Italian genius, is set to premiere next year with Sony Pictures Television co-producing and distributing. The series is produced by Lux Vide with RAI Fiction and Big Light Productions in association with France Télévisions and RTVE. A broadcaster is yet to pick up the series.
