Supergirl Faces New Threats In Season 5 Extended Trailer

The CW has released an extended trailer for Supergirl‘s season 5 premiere, highlighting the arrival of a new villain named Midnight while Lena plans her revenge on the girl of steel. Check out the video below!

The premiere episode is directed by Jesse Warn from a script co-written by Derek Simon and Nicki Holcomb. Its official synopsis reads: “Kara (Melissa Benoist) is surprised to find that CatCo has a new owner who has brought in a star reporter. New couples emerge and explore their budding relationships while J’onn J’onzz (David Harewood) receives an unexpected visitor.”

Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist (Glee) as Kara Danvers/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Alex Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow ‘Winn’ Schott, Katie McGrath (Merlin) as Lena Luthor, Jess Rath as Brainiac 5, and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw/J’onn J’onnz. Last season, Sam Witwer, Rhona Mitra, and Bruce Boxleitner have joined the cast to portray the roles of Agent Liberty, Mercy Graves, and Vice President Baker, respectively.

In season 5, Benoist will be making her directorial debut with the fifth season’s episode 17. She will be the second cast member to direct an episode of the series following David Harewood, who helm an episode last season. Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars) and Staz Nair (Game of Thrones) have also joined the cast for the new season.

Based on the DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robert Rovner, and Jessica Queller. Supergirl is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The series is scheduled to return on October 6.
