BBC’s Les Misèrables trailer features Lily Collins and Olivia Colman
The BBC has released the official trailer for their series adaptation of Victor Hugo’s 19th century classic novel Les Misérables, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming epic six-part drama. It is scheduled to debut in 2019. Check out the video below!
The miniseries stars Lily Collins (Okja) as Fantine, Olivia Colman (The Favorite) as Madame Thénardier , David Oyelowo (Selma) as Javert, Dominic West (300) as Jean Valjean, Josh O’Connor as Marius, Ellie Bamber as Cosette and Adeel Akhtar as Monsieur Thénardier.
Andrew Davies (War & Peace) will go back to the novel and delve deep into the many layers of Hugo’s story, reveling in Jean Valjean and Javert’s cat-and-mouse relationship, against the epic backdrop of France at a time of civil unrest. With a striking intensity and relevance to us today, the novel is testimony to the struggles of France’s underclass and how far they must go to survive.
The series is a co-production between BBC Studios and Lookout Point for BBC and Masterpiece. Weinstein TV was a co-producer when the production was first announced and was set to distribute in the U.S. and China. Since the sexual assault and harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein, they were dropped as a producing partner.
Les Misérables has been made into a French musical, then a Broadway hit. It was recently made into a feature film starring Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Javert, and Anne Hathaway as Fantine, winning three Academy Awards that year.
