The Book of Boba Fett - Chapter 3 Review

The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 7 Review: A Satisfying Ending

The last time we checked in with The Book of Boba Fett, the heroes were gearing up for a war with the Pyke Syndicate, and Grogu had to choose between continuing his Jedi training or returning to be with Din Djarin. On the season finale of this show, we continue both storylines. “Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor” seals the first season of this Star Wars series with a satisfying finale that doesn’t offer many shocking moments or reveals but brings the attention back to its titular character in the best results yet.

This episode opens with Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, and Din Djarin at the burnt-out remains of the Sanctuary. Next, Mok Shaiz and Cad Bane speak, and we discover Shaiz and the Pykes slaughtered the Tusken raider tribe and framed the Nikto gang. This well-written revelation allows Shaiz to deserve his position as an antagonist, but it is undercut by the fact that Shaiz only appeared in one scene in the series before this one. We then see an X-wing arriving at Peli Motto’s hangar, carrying Grogu with Djarin’s beskar shirt. This was an excellent answer to the decision at the end of Chapter 6, and it sets up the third season of The Mandalorian very well.

The treaty is broken, and the locals turn on Fett’s forces, attacking the Gamorreans, the cyborgs, and Black Krrsantan. This choice was surprising, and for the first time in the show, it feels like the characters are in genuine danger. There is an excellent moment where Djarin refuses to leave Fett’s side as it is against his creed, and the two agree to team up. Seeing these two fight side-by-side on jetpacks is an incredible sight as the war begins. Motto arrives at the scene to return Grogu to Djarin, and the way Grogu immediately jumps up and hugs Djarin is one of their cutest moments as they are finally reunited.

For much of the episode, Fett is overshadowed by Djarin and his power. However, once the claws grab the rooftops and Fett emerges on top of the rancor, the already-action-packed finale is taken to a whole new level. It is fun to see the rancor take on the Scorpeneks, and the large-spectacle action is better than anything we have seen from the show before. Robert Rodriguez’s episodes have been the weakest of the show so far, but this is his best one of the season. Grogu’s presence in the war initially increases the stakes, but he ends up bringing the rancor to sleep, another illustration of his power with the Force.

We also have more of Fett fighting on his own as he squares off with Bane. They have an excellent fight scene that ends with Fett killing Bane. It is somewhat disappointing that Bane had an exciting live-action debut in Chapter 6 only to die in the very next episode, but it is fun to see two bounty hunters face-off. Fennec kills Shaiz in a scene that doesn’t feel satisfying as Fett doesn’t directly get revenge on Shaiz for murdering the Tuskens, but the storyline is all wrapped up as Fett finally earns the respect of the people of Mos Espa.

Chapter 7 makes the wise choice of not including Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, or any other established character, bringing the attention back to Boba Fett. The show has had a rocky road to get here, and the finale is ultimately satisfying, despite being held back by the quality of its predecessors. The episode lacked the emotional punch that a Star Wars show deserves, but it served its purpose as an ending to this spin-off of The Mandalorian.
