The Luminaries Casts Eva Green and Eve Hewson

Deadline reports that upcoming BBC Two drama The Luminaries has cast Eva Green (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) and Eve Hewson (Bridge of Spies). The story is adapted from Eleanor Catton‘s award-winning novel of the same name. Green will play Lydia Wells, with Hewson as Anna Wetherell, the book’s protagonist.

I’m thrilled to be joining Working Title and this wonderful team. Eleanor has written a series of brilliant screenplays. I loved her original novel and it’s so exciting that her own screen adaptation reveals yet more exquisite material,” Green said about the project.

The story starts in 1865, with Wetherell sailing from Britain to New Zealand to start a new life, only to meet adversities nothing could have prepared her for.

Director Claire McCarthy added: “Ever since I read Eleanor’s incredible novel I’ve been completely captivated by the rich world she has created. What an honor to bring this beautiful and original work to the screen. I’m delighted to be joining forces with such wonderful actors and dynamic creative team.”

The series will be produced by Working Title Television for BBC Two and TVNZ with Catton and WTT’s Andrew Woodhead, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner all serving as executive producers. Lucy Richer will also work as an executive producer on behalf of the BBC.
