BBC One’s Gold Digger Adds Six More to Cast As Filming Begins

According to Vital Thrills, Sebastian Armesto (Poldark), Jemima Rooper (Lost in Austen), Archie Renaux, Alex Jennings (The Crown), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Hard Sun) and Julia McKenzie have joined the cast of BBC One’s upcoming drama series Gold Digger. The join Westworld star Ben Barnes and Julia Ordmond (Sabrina, Temple Grandin). Production on the series has officially begun.

BBC’s Gold Digger follows Julia Day (Ordmond), a mother and a wife who has spent her whole life putting the needs of others before herself, falls in love with Golding (Barnes), a man 25 years her junior. It looks at how their unconventional relationship impacts her family as the secrets of their past are revealed and investigates whether Benjamin is really the gold digger that they think he is.

Armesto is set to play the role of Patrick, Julia’s high-achieving eldest son who is always trying to be a good man. Rooper will be portraying the middle child Della whose finger is permanently on the self-destruct button while Renaux will play Leo, the youngest son who still lives with his mother and idolises his father. Jenning will be Julia’s ex-husband, Ted and Amuka-Bird is portraying Julia’s former best friend, Marsha while McKenzie will play the role of Ted’s mother, Hazel.

The series was written and created by Marnie Dickens (Thirteen, The Musketeers) and will consist of six episodes. Vanessa Caswill (Thirteen, Little Women) will direct the first three episodes of the series with David Evans (Preacher) directing the rest of the series. Tim Bradley (Sherlock: Case of Evil, D-Day) and Ani Kevork (Unforgotten) are producing.

BBC’s Gold Digger is executive produced by Mainstreet’s Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes for Mainstreet Pictures, Elizabeth Kilgarriff for BBC One and Dickens.
