Creator and executive producer Sam Esmail (Homecoming, Briarpatch) made this statement to the outlet: “When I first created the world of Mr. Robot, I thought it would be a niche television series with a small, cult following. Over the past three years, it has become so much more, and I am continually humbled by the show’s recognition and by the amazing cast and crew that work tirelessly to help bring my vision to life. Since day one, I’ve been building toward one conclusion — and in breaking the next season of Mr. Robot, I have decided that conclusion is finally here. Everyone on the creative team, including the amazing people at USA and UCP, didn’t want to say goodbye, but we ultimately have too much respect for Elliot’s journey to extend past its inevitable ending. Therefore, season four will serve as the final chapter of the Mr. Robot story. To fans of the show: thank you for the past three years, and I can’t wait to share this exciting final season with you.”

USA Network president Chris McCumber added that working with the cast and crew of Mr. Robot has been incredible and that they “can’t wait to reveal the complete Mr. Robot story.” The outlet also notes that Esmail had always planned for the series to conclude with either season four or season five.

Mr. Robot stars Rami Malek (the role for which he won an Emmy) alongside Christian Slater, Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, Martin Wallstrom, Grace Gummer, Michael Cristofer, Bobby Cannavale, and BD Wong.

Mr. Robot follows Elliot Alderson (Malek), a former cyber-security engineer who became involved in the underground hacker group society, after being recruited by their leader (Slater). The group successfully pulled off their five/nine hack on multi-national company Evil Corp in the first season, causing a global catastrophe and sending the world into a spiral in the second, with season three of Mr. Robot focused on the manipulation of people as White Rose and Elliot battle for control in their own respective ways. The fourth and final season will explore the pros and cons of Elliot sending an email that could reverse 5/9.

Mr. Robot season four is set to begin production during the New York winter and will premiere in 2019. The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions.
