Fox 21 TV Studios & McG’s Wonderland to Develop Vampyr Series Adaptation

Deadline brings word that the rights to the video game Vampyr has been optioned by Fox 21 Television Studios to develop a series adaptation with McG’s Wonderland Sound & Vision alongside DJ2 Entertainment.

Set in 1918 London, Vampyr revolves around a morally righteous doctor who mysteriously turns into a vampire and is now town between his solemn commitment to save lives and his insatiable urge to feed. With a deadly virus spreading that only he can cure, the doctor must decide who to kill in his tight-knit community to stay alive long enough to save everyone from certain death.

McG will direct and executive produce the series with Mary Viola and Corey Marsh from Wonderland and Dmitri Johnson and Stephan Bugaj also executive producing.

The Vampyr video game was developed by Dontnod Entertainment (Life is Strange, Remember Me) and published by Focus Home Interactive. The game launched on June 5 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Vampyr opened at number one in the U.S. and several European countries after selling more than 450,000 in its first month of release.

In Vampyr, gamers play as Jonathan Reid, a doctor in 1918 London newly-turned into a vampire following his return from the Great War. His convictions blown away, Reid discovers the existence of a dark new world where supernatural creatures and secret societies live together in the shadows… and he is now part of this world.

As a newborn vampire shattered by an irrepressible thirst for blood and thrust into a strange new world, Reid attempts to interpret the supernatural in the best way he knows how: rational thinking. However, between ancient societies, mysterious murders, and an imminent large-scale vampire hunt, his scientific assurances are challenged like never before.

Driven by a personal desire to learn who caused his transformation and why, Jonathan Reid continues working to find a cure for the devastating disease that decimates its citizens. But doing so, he must confront his nature as a blood-drinker and the terrible temptation to feed on those he swore to protect…
