Netflix and ESPN Films Announce The Last Dance

ESPN Films and Netflix today announced they are teaming up to develop The Last Dance, a multi-part documentary series that focuses on arguably one of the most influential icons in sports history, Michael Jordan. The 10-part documentary series will focus on Michael Jordan and the 1990s Chicago Bulls.

The documentary series will be anchored by more than 500 hours of never-before-seen footage from the team’s last championship run in the 1997-98 season. Michael Jordan and other key figures from the Bulls’ championship teams, as well as dozens of other luminaries from the basketball realm, have given their full participation towards The Last Dance. The anthology will examine the simultaneous rise of Jordan and the NBA during the 1990s.

The Last Dance is directed by Jason Hehir (The Fab FiveThe ’85 BearsAndre the Giant), who is known for his work in the documentary world. In 2009, he was nominated for the Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Documentary for Jose Canseco: Last Shot.  The series is produced by Mandalay Sports Media’s Mike Tollin.

The Last Dance is slated to premiere in 2019.
