Margot Robbie to Produce Female-Focused Shakespeare Series

Margot Robbie is set to produce a ten-part female-focused Shakespeare series

Margot Robbie (I, Tonya) is set to produce a female-focused Shakespeare series with her LuckyChap Entertainment, the Australian Broadcasting Company, Hoodlum and ABC Studios International, according to Deadline. The ten-part Shakespeare series will focus on the work of the Bard but from the female perspective. The Shakespeare project will begin filming in 2018 and will be produced in Australia.

The Shakespeare series will have a female creative team including writers and writer/directors. Each of the episodes will take on a different work and will be updated to reflect different cultures and voices. Series Concept Creator Giula Sandler will reportedly work on the entire series and write an episode. Though many of Shakespeare’s plays focus on a male lead character, his female characters are well-drawn and often quite powerful.

In a statement, LuckyChap said, “We are thrilled about this Australian partnership as an opportunity to showcase unique, distinctly female voices in writing, and to demonstrate the high quality of the Australian film and television industry. The project will share diverse points of view, from writers representing the different cultures and areas within Australia, which many would not readily associate with works of Shakespeare.”
