Netflix Announces French Original Sci-Fi Series Osmosis

Netflix continues its investment in European and French content and has announced Osmosis, an eight-episode series that will be available exclusively to members around the world.

From showrunner Audrey Fouché (Les Revenants, Borgia) and Versailles producers Aude Albano and Claude Chelli, Osmosis is a sci-fi drama about Paris in the near future filled with romance and mystery about technology’s final frontier: love.

In the series, technology has conquered the last frontier decoding true love. Digging deep into its users brain data, the new dating app “OSMOSIS” can find a perfect match with 100% accuracy, turning the concept of an absolute soulmate into a reality. But is there a price to pay when letting an algorithm decide who you will love? When in exchange for this undying, ageless love, technology can access the innermost recesses of your mind — and the best kept secrets of your heart.

“By giving us the opportunity to work on ‘Osmosis,’ Netflix is offering us the tremendous opportunity to explore a rare genre in France: grounded sci-fi, which focuses on this universal question: does perfect love exist… and at what price?” said Albano. “We are eager to begin this audacious project in collaboration with Netflix and surprise and delight their subscribers in France and around the world.”

“I am very excited about the rare opportunity to create a futuristic series in France and join together with Netflix and Capa Drama for my first project,” said Fouché. “In this eight episode series, the future I have imagined holds a mirror to present day mixing an eternal question – ‘what is love?’ – with ultra-technological answers, sometimes incredibly seducing, sometimes extremely dangerous. Netflix offers an ideal platform to explore these very contemporary stories in an innovative way, which I am looking forward to sharing soon.”

“We are delighted to work with such talented French storytellers and producers on our next French original series. ‘Osmosis’ is mystery, suspense and romance for a French and global audience to enjoy,” said said Erik Barmack, Vice President of International Originals at Netflix. “This will also be one of at least six new European original series to be announced before the end of 2017, with the promise of more French content that we are thrilled to be working on.”

Based on an idea originally produced by Telfrance (Newen group) & Arte France, the Netflix original series Osmosis will be shot entirely in France and production is expected to start in 2018. Aude Albano and Claude Chelli are producers at CAPA Drama (part of the Newen group).
