Geoff Johns Confirms That Jay Garrick Will Appear on The Flash

The season finale of “The Flash” raised the bar in terms of the show’s willingness to commit to its comic book roots, and one major thing that stood out during that final episode was the helmet of one Jay Garrick, the original version of “The Flash” from the golden age of comics, which toppled into the primary universe.

At yesterday’s “DC Entertainment: From Page to Screen” panel (via CBR), executive producer Geoff Johns confirmed that it wasn’t just a cute Easter egg.

“That’s not an Easter egg, that’s a story point,” Johns said. “We’re going to see Jay.”

In the source material, Jay Garrick was the direct inspiration for Barry Allen to adopt “The Flash” as his own superhero identity after he read an issue of “The Flash.” Eventually the pair would meet, where it was revealed that they populated parallel Earths, Earth-1 and Earth-2, respectively, and the two would go on to become good friends. The executive producers of “The Flash” have already confirmed that we will be seeing more of the Multiverse in the second season, so perhaps even more Earth-2 DC characters will come along. Check back here for more news on “The Flash,” and its casting of Jay Garrick, as we learn it.

“The Flash” stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West, Rick Cosnett as Eddie Thawne, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon and Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West. It’s executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, David Nutter and Sarah Schechter.

Following the defeat of Barry Allen’s arch-nemesis Eobard Thawne (aka Reverse Flash), Team Flash quickly turned their attention to the singularity swirling high above Central City, which fans last saw consuming everything in its path. Armed with the heart of a hero and the ability to move at super speeds, Barry charged into the eye of the singularity, but will he actually be able to save his city from impending doom? “The Flash” will premiere its second season on Tuesday, October 6 and 8 PM EST.
