Netflix‘s animated Twilight TV show has finally received an update two years after its announcement. The upcoming project appears to be moving forward in the right direction, with casting now underway.
What is the update on Netflix’s Twilight TV show?
In 2024, Netflix announced an animated series based on Stephenie Meyer‘s Midnight Sun. However, there were few updates on the project for nearly two years. Recently, two voice acting casting calls for the show were confirmed. These were for the roles of Jacob Black and his father, Billy Black, two major characters from the Quileute tribe in the Twilight series.
The character description required for Jacob’s voice actor read, “The team is looking for a male, Native American actor to voice the young teen (specifically asking for adults to play the teen role). The vocal quality is described as “youthful, inviting, and cheerful, exuding a happy-go-lucky demeanor with a husky tone.”
Billy’s casting description reads, “The production is searching for a male, Native American actor who sounds and appears to be in his late 40s to 50s. The required vocal quality should exude “kindness and wisdom.”

In addition, no prior voice-acting experience is required. Casting director Melissa Kostenbauder and casting associate Jake Warnecke are specifically considering actors with on-camera experience for these roles. The casting sheet also lists production as taking place in Los Angeles from August 2026 through May 2027.
Netflix and Lionsgate are developing an episodic animated adaptation of Midnight Sun, a retelling of the first Twilight novel from Edward Cullen’s perspective. Stephenie Meyer will also serve as an executive producer, alongside Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Erik Feig, Meghan Hibbett, and Emily Wissink.
As of now, there is no update on the release date. Although it is based on Meyer’s book, the show’s script is also kept under wraps. However, What’s on Netflix has predicted that the animated series could premiere in late 2027 or sometime in 2028.
