Gilmore Girls already has a new streaming home following news of its impending exit from Netflix on June 30, 2026. The comedy-drama originally aired on The WB/The CW for seven seasons from 2000 to 2007. The series was massively successful and amassed a huge fanbase, which likely grows every year as new viewers discover the show on streaming services.
Gilmore Girls to stream on Prime Video after Netflix
Gilmore Girls will debut on Prime Video on July 1, 2026, according to reports by outlets such as Entertainment Weekly. Previously, while announcing the exit, Netflix shared on X (formerly, Twitter), “It’s a show? It’s a lifestyle. It’s a religion. We are sorry to say that Gilmore Girls Seasons 1-7 will be leaving Netflix in the US on June 30. Raising a cup of coffee to every fan who visited Stars Hollow with us.”
Amy Sherman-Palladino created the series and served as its showrunner in the first six seasons. However, David S. Rosenthal took over showrunning duties in the seventh season. The series’s popularity even led to the development of a sequel miniseries, titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Sherman-Palladino also created this series, which premiered on Netflix on November 25, 2016.
Gilmore Girls revolves around Lorelai Gilmore, her daughter Rory Gilmore, and the lives they lead in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. The show’s cast includes Lauren Graham as Lorelai, Alexis Bledel as Rory, Melissa McCarthy as Sookie St. James, Keiko Agena as Lane Kim, Scott Patterson as Luke Danes, Kelly Bishop as Emily Gilmore, and Yanic Truesdale as Michel Gerard.
Gilmore Girls received mostly positive reviews throughout its run. For its final season, it garnered a 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Mary Kassel of ScreenRant wrote, “Gilmore Girls isn’t for everyone, but what show is? For those it resonates with, Gilmore Girls will never lose its sheen and the jokes will always land as effectively as if Lorelai and Rory were in the room with them.”
