FX sets a premiere date for Snowfall spin-off The Drop
FX has officially announced that The Drop will premiere on September 8, launching simultaneously on FX and Hulu in the United States. The eight-episode drama will follow a weekly release schedule, with new episodes arriving every Tuesday evening. International audiences will also be able to watch the series through Disney+ in select regions. The episodes will premiere at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.
Serving as the latest Snowfall spin-off, The Drop picks up after the events of Snowfall’s series finale, which transported viewers from the late 1980s into the early 1990s. The new story follows Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons as they attempt to build meaningful futures while navigating a city undergoing major cultural and social transformation (via Deadline).
Returning stars Gail Bean and Isaiah John reprise their roles as Wanda and Leon. In The Drop, Wanda becomes convinced that the emerging West Coast rap movement has the power to reshape American culture. Driven by ambition and vision, she sets out to assemble a team capable of making a lasting impact on the music industry.
However, success proves far from easy. The story places Wanda at the intersection of entertainment, business, and street politics. Her efforts bring her into contact with aspiring artists, family members, and influential figures whose goals often conflict with her own. Among them are her cousins, Lamar and James Kinsey, as well as the volatile rapper Artillery, whose legal troubles threaten to derail his future.
Meanwhile, Leon attempts to distance himself from the violence and criminal activity that defined much of his past. Determined to pursue redemption, he dedicates himself to helping his community through a free legal clinic.
Produced by FX Productions, the series comes from showrunner Malcolm Spellman alongside several executive producers connected to the original franchise.
