Will Ferrell Is Set to Takeover Netflix With His New Series Soon

A sports comedy series starring Will Ferrell is scheduled to premiere on Netflix very soon. Also created by Ferrell, the show centers on a golf legend who tries to win one last tournament in his late career.

Will Ferrell’s The Hawk streams on Netflix next month

The Hawk will begin streaming on Netflix from Thursday, July 16. It will feature 10 episodes, all dropping on the same day. The streaming giant announced the release date with a trailer that showcases a hilarious outing.

The series centers on Will Ferrell’s character, Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a former world-renowned golfer who is trying to make an unlikely comeback more than two decades after his glory days. The Hawk is determined to win one final major championship and complete golf’s Grand Slam, reclaiming the top spot from his son, Lance.

The series also stars Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver, and David Hornsby.

Reportedly, the Anchorman star was going to star alongside Ramy Youssef. Furthermore, the two were set to serve as the showrunners, alongside Josh Rabinowitz. However, Youssef and Rabinowitz walked away from the project due to creative differences. It was then that Ferrell reunited with his former SNL co-star Shannon, who plays his ex-wife, Stacy (via Deadline).

Ferrell is also producing the series through his company, Gloria Sanchez Productions. Meanwhile, Knives Out creator Rian Johnson serves as an executive producer alongside Jessica Elbaum, Alix Taylor, David Gordon Green, and Andrew Guest, among others.

To promote the series, Netflix launched The Hawk Bus Tour. It is a fictional East Coast bus tour featuring the show’s main character. The campaign offers fans interactive experiences, including games, prizes, and photo opportunities. The tour includes stops at The Hamptons, The Travelers Champion Pro-Am in Cromwell, and Netflix House in Pennsylvania (via Tudum).
