Highly-Acclaimed Marvel TV Series Won’t Be a Disney+ Exclusive Anymore

A highly acclaimed Marvel series will soon become available beyond Disney+. The first season of Jessica Jones will become available on Hulu in just over a week. The move follows the character’s return in the Daredevil revival series.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones Season 1 to stream on Hulu next month

Marvel’s Jessica Jones Season 1 will stream on Hulu starting Wednesday, July 1, 2026, per the streaming service’s schedule.

The show is based on the titular Marvel character created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos. Melissa Rosenberg developed the show for Netflix. Despite receiving favorable reviews, the streaming giant canceled the series after three seasons. After Disney acquired the rights to Jessica Jones and other Marvel series produced for Netflix, they moved to Disney+.

Jessica Jones Season 1 introduces the titular superhero as a private investigator in New York City who’s trying to move on from a traumatic past. Her life is disrupted when she discovers that Kilgrave, a man with the ability to control people through verbal commands, has returned.

The show’s cast includes Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, David Tennant as Kilgrave, Rachael Taylor as Patricia Walker, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, and Erin Moriarty as Hope Shlottman, among others.

Season 1 of Jessica Jones first aired on Netflix on November 20, 2015. The subsequent seasons followed in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Each season featured 13 episodes, for a total of 39. Throughout its run, the show was well-received by both critics and fans.

On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has an approval rating of 83% from critics and a user rating of 80%. Metacritic reports a similar trend, where the show received a critics’ score of 81/100 and a user score of 8.1/10.

After Disney acquired the series, a former executive said the company was open to reviving all the Marvel shows Netflix canceled (via The Hollywood Reporter). For now, the studio has revived only Daredevil, which has already completed two seasons. Although they don’t have their own shows yet, both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage appeared in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
