Prime Video’s Kevin canceled after one Season, but Aubrey Plaza is hopeful

Amazon Prime Video has canceled the animated comedy series Kevin after just one season. Star and co-creator Aubrey Plaza broke the news on her Instagram on Saturday afternoon. “Amazon Prime is not picking up Kevin for another season,” Plaza wrote in her post.

Plaza expressed her frustration while also showing gratitude toward everyone involved with the project. “Very disappointing since we were just getting going,” she stated in the same post. She went on to thank “all the fans that watched our show and all of the incredible cast and crew.”

The actress then reflected on her experience with Parks and Recreation, which also struggled early on. Plaza recalled that the NBC sitcom nearly faced cancellation due to low ratings during its initial run. “We had some special humans over at NBC that believed in the show and let us grow,” she shared.

Despite that, Plaza acknowledged the entertainment industry has shifted significantly since those days. “I was hoping for this for Kevin but sadly we are living in a different time in our industry,” she wrote. She ended her message on an optimistic note, adding, “Maybe Kevin will find a new owner someday.”

Kevin centers on a spoiled house cat who ends up at a New York City shelter with a family of strays. Additionally, Plaza co-created the animated series alongside Joe Wengert for Prime Video. Meanwhile, the show featured voice performances from Jason Schwartzman, Whoopi Goldberg, Amy Sedaris, Aparna Nancherla, and John Waters.

As of now, Amazon has not publicly commented on the cancellation or the possibility of the show moving elsewhere.
