Prime Video has issued a statement asking Off Campus fans to stop harassing the hit show’s cast members. Those who refuse to comply will be banned from following the TV show’s accounts on all platforms.
Created by Louisa Levy, Off Campus is a romantic drama TV show that premiered on Prime Video last month. The show, which is based on a book series by Elle Kennedy, has already been renewed for a second season, though a release date has not yet been set. The cast includes Ella Bright as Hannah Wells, Belmont Cameli as Garrett Graham, Mika Abdalla as Allie Hayes, Antonio Cipriano as John Logan, Jalen Thomas Brooks as John Tucker, and Josh Heuston as Justin Kohl.
What did Prime Video say in its statement about Off Campus?
On Twitter, the official Off Campus account shared the following statement, “The Off Campus community is built on a shared love of storytelling — and on respect for the real people who bring it to life. We ask that everyone in this space extend that respect to our cast and the people in their lives. Accounts that engage in targeted harassment will be removed from following our accounts.”
According to TheWrap, the statement was issued after “heightened intrigue into the cast and their personal lives.” Abdalla, for example, is set to be the lead of Off Campus Season 2, and a resurfaced podcast clip displaying turmoil between her and her ex-fiance Jake Short has since resurfaced. The former couple recently told US Weekly that they “were in a loving, respectful relationship for five years” and “it’s hurtful to see playful moments dissected in a way that does not reflect the respect and love we had and still have for each other.”
Reddit users also say that some fans have been commenting on the actors not matching some of the physical descriptions of the characters in the books, which has led to insensitive and racist comments.
The first season of Off Campus is available to stream on Prime Video.
