The Madison’s Matthew Fox Reveals Reason for Long Acting Break After Lost

Matthew Fox was one of the most renowned faces on television in the 2000s and 2010s, but the actor retreated from acting in 2015 and wasn’t around for quite a few years before he returned in 2021 with Peacock’s Last Light. He claimed in a recent interview that he took a break from acting to spend more time with his family. Some netizens, however, disputed the claim.

Matthew Fox reflects on his acting break and return in The Madison

Matthew Fox, who rose to prominence as Jack Shephard in Lost, reflected on his acting break when talking to Variety about his new series, The Madison. Fox did not appear in any series after 2014 till 2021. He also appeared in only a handful of movies in the meantime. His last appearance was in 2015’s Bone Tomahawk.

Fox explained to Variety, “I felt like it was time to engage really intensely with my family. I had missed some of their childhood because I was on set all the time with ‘Lost’ and doing films and promoting everything. And so it was the right moment for me to step back, take a moment, and engage with the people that I love and care about most in the world.” He further claimed that he also missed storytelling when he was away, and hence, he has returned.

But some fans disputed the claim, recounting the controversies against Fox. In 2011, Fox was arrested for an alleged assault of a female bus driver in Cleveland, Ohio. The charges were dropped against him. In May 2012, his Lost co-star Dominic Monaghan accused Fox of beating women.

Many believe that the accusations are the reason Fox moved away from the industry. Many claimed the same in the comment section of Variety’s video.

Either way, Matthew Fox is back on television and will soon be seen in Taylor Sheridan’s The Madison.
