Luke Thompson confirms he once performed for Queen Elizabeth II

Luke Thompson, whose character Benedict Bridgerton led the new season of the show, spoke about his encounter with British royalty. While the actor is accustomed to portraying interactions with queens on the set of Bridgerton, he once had the opportunity to perform for Queen Elizabeth II.

Speaking to Parade in an exclusive interview, Thompson shared how he ended up performing in front of the late monarch. He studied drama at the University of Bristol and graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2013. During that period, he performed a Tom Stoppard monologue for Queen Elizabeth II at a London art gallery.

“I was there with a group of students, so we all had monologues, but they offered the performance to me. So that was pretty cool,” Thompson recalled. “It was just her and the director of the drama school that I was in. So it was just an audience of two,” he added, describing the intimate setting.

Despite the stature of his audience, Thompson said he was not intimidated. Instead, he described the moment as an “out of body experience.” Thompson elaborated, “The strangeness of it took over any sort of, like, oh my God, nerves. I think I was just like, ‘How bizarre. Here I am, and she’s there.” He added, “I’m doing this monologue that maybe she doesn’t really care much for [laughs] I don’t know.”

He further stated, “That’s probably one of the coolest offers that was made to me, I think.”

Bridgerton Season 4 is now streaming on Netflix.
