HBO’s Latest Fantasy Show Scored Massive Viewership in Finale

HBO’s latest trip to Westeros is ending its first season on a high note, with viewership in record numbers to see the finale of Dunk and Egg’s journey. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has not only been loved by critics but has also built a dedicated audience that grew with every passing week.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 6 secures series high viewership

Viewership hit a new peak as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 1 finale aired on February 22. According to live-plus-three-day figures from both Nielsen and Warner Bros. Discovery, Episode 6 drew 9.5 million viewers across HBO and Max in the U.S. within its first three days of availability (via Variety).

This performance builds directly on the momentum from the previous week. Episode 5 had set a then-series high with 9.2 million viewers. The finale’s viewership numbers represent a massive 42% surge from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premiere, which itself launched with a robust 6.7 million viewers (via TheWrap). That strong debut placed the show among the top three series debuts in the history of the streaming giant.

Overall, the first season of the fantasy drama is resonating with a wide audience. In the U.S. itself, it’s currently averaging over 14 million viewers. And on the global front, this number exceeds 26 million. Outside of an early release for Episode 4 timed around the Super Bowl, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ viewership has grown consistently.

The series, created by Ira Parker and George R. R. Martin, is a prequel to Game of Thrones. The show, which adapts the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, stars Peter Claffey as the hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as his squire, Egg. Thanks to a renewal announced in November 2025, Season 2 is already in the works.
