Tim Daly cast in wife Téa Leoni’s NBC comedy pilot Newlyweds

NBC has cast Tim Daly opposite his wife Téa Leoni in the network’s multi camera comedy pilot Newlyweds (via Variety). The project marks their first on screen collaboration since they officially tied the knot in July 2025. They originally met in 2014 on the set of Madam Secretary, where they played a married couple for six seasons and confirmed their relationship in December of that year.

NBC picked up Newlyweds to pilot in January. The official logline describes it as a “later-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-up professor who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship.” Daly will play Tony, a recently divorced professor who meets Jeanie, played by Leoni, after a chance encounter at a valet stand.

Per the character description, Tony is “so taken with her beauty and spirit that they wind up having dinner together anyway.” He soon realizes that “his life with Jeanie is not going to be the quiet, stay-at-home lifestyle he enjoys, but he also knows he’d rather change his ways than live without her.” The story follows their unexpected romance and whirlwind wedding.

The role returns Daly to NBC, where he starred on Wings for eight seasons from 1990 to 1997. His credits include The Fugitive, Private Practice, and Madam Secretary. He earned a 2007 Emmy nomination for outstanding guest actor in a drama series for The Sopranos. Daly also voiced the titular hero in Superman: The Animated Series.

Gail Lerner writes and executive produces Newlyweds. Jamie Lee Curtis co created the series and also serves as an executive producer. Eric and Kim Tannenbaum and Scott Schwartz executive produce as well. Pam Fryman will direct and executive produce the pilot. Universal Television produces the project.
