Fans of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime, who have long been gunning for a new installment in the franchise, have finally received a definitive answer from Yoko Taro, the creator of Nier. A whopping 30 years after the debut of the original anime, the Evangelion team has confirmed its plans to expand the franchise on the television front with a brand new series.
Yoko Taro to develop a new Neon Genesis Evangelion anime
On February 23, at the final day of the special event, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime, the creators surprised their fanbase with a new series announcement.
The Evangelion franchise shared the news on its official website and social media handles, while also revealing a few names attached to the project.
According to the update, the creator of the Drakengard and Nier video game series, Yoko Taro, will be taking the reins of the new Neon Genesis Evangelion anime. He will not only oversee the overall development of the upcoming Evangelion show, but will also lead the anime’s writing department.
Taro will be joined by his Nier colleague, Keiichi Okabe, who has been roped in to provide the music for the highly anticipated project. Moreover, Kazuya Tsurumaki and Toru Yatabe, who have already mustered experience in helming Neon Genesis Evangelion features, will be assuming directorial responsibilities for the upcoming show.
Meanwhile, Studio Khara and CloverWorks will handle the animation production in a collaborative push. The two studios have already proven their mettle in recent years, having produced multiple fan-favorite anime of late.
Despite the official announcement, Neon Genesis Evangelion has not shared any details regarding the new series’ plot or its connection to the original anime. The team has also shied away from sharing any news regarding the cast or the official release date window of the forthcoming show.
