Chelsea Handler Is a Washed-Up Celeb in New Hulu TV Show

Acclaimed stand-up comedian and actress Chelsea Handler has signed on for the leading role in Hulu‘s newest comedy series, Townhouse. This marks Handler’s first major scripted TV project after a one-episode guest star appearance in 2019’s Will & Grace and 2024’s Not Dead Yet.

What do we know about Chelsea Handler’s new Hulu show?

According to Deadline, Townhouse is being developed by up-and-coming writer Zoe Young and 20th Television. This would be Young’s first TV writing credit after graduating from the 2025 class of USC’s Writing for Screen & Television MFA program. In addition to leading the show, Handler is also serving as an executive producer. At the moment, the project has yet to receive an official series order from Hulu.

“The show follows a reality star and her live-in entourage of misfits as they scramble to rehab her image and reboot her career. When her estranged daughter unexpectedly moves into their crumbling Manhattan townhouse, the TV has-been is confronted with the one role she’s spent her entire life avoiding: motherhood,” reads the show’s initial logline.

Handler is no stranger to reality television, as she had previously executive-produced the E! series Pretty Wild, which centered on Bling Ring group member Alexis Neiers. She has hosted and starred in many talk shows and specials since 2007, including Chelsea Lately, Uganda Be Kidding Me: Live, Chelsea, Chelsea Handler: Evolution, Chelsea Handler: Revolution, and Chelsea Handler: The Feeling. In 2012, she also executive-produced an NBC biographical sitcom based on her best-selling novel Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea. The Laura Prepon-led series only lasted for one season.
