Ronda Rousey Fighting Return Date Set for Netflix’s First MMA Event

Ronda Rousey is returning to combat sports for Netflix‘s first-ever live MMA broadcast.

Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) and Netflix announced that Rousey will fight Gina Carano in a featherweight bout at 145 pounds. The fight will be professionally sanctioned under the Unified Rules of MMA. It will take place inside a hexagon cage and consist of five 5-minute rounds with 4-ounce gloves.

When is the Netflix release date for Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano?

Rousey vs. Carano is set for Saturday, May 16, at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California. The event will stream live globally on Netflix. Similar to the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight, Rousey vs. Carano will be offered to all Netflix subscribers at no additional cost. Netflix plans to announce more fights on the card at a later date.

Rousey (12-2, 9 submissions, 3 KOs) is arguably the most famous female fighter to ever come out of the UFC. In 2012, Rousey won the UFC’s first-ever Bantamweight Championship. Due to her dominance inside the octagon and impact on the sport, Rousey became the first woman inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. Rousey’s last MMA fight came in December 2016.

Known as the “Baddest Woman on the Planet,” Rousey’s star transcended outside of the octagon, leading to a successful run in the WWE, where she participated in the first female WrestleMania main event in history.

After MMA, Rousey transitioned into acting, appearing in movies like The Expendables 3, Furious 7, Entourage, and Mile 22.

Considered a pioneer of MMA, Carano (7-1, 1 submission, 3 KOs) helped popularize female MMA before it became mainstream. In 2009, Carano’s fight against Cris Cyborg became the first major MMA event to feature two women in the main event.

Carano parlayed her MMA success into a successful acting career, with roles in Haywire, Fast & Furious 6, and Deadpool. Carano famously starred as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian. Lucasfilm fired Carano in 2021 due to social media posts that “denigrated people based on their cultural and religious identities.” In 2024, Carano filed a lawsuit against Lucasfilm over the firing, and the two sides settled the dispute in 2025.

Tickets for Rousey vs. Carano go on sale Thursday, March 5.
