Paul Dano addressed the possibility of a Riddler-focused television series in a recent interview. The actor shared his thoughts on what it would take for such a project to happen and the creative standards he would require to return to the role.
Paul Dano on if there could be a show about The Riddler
Paul Dano was asked on Clique TV whether he would consider doing a television show as the Riddler. He responded, “Sure. Yeah, sure. Why not? If we could do something really good. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.” He emphasized the importance of quality by adding, “You got to keep the bar high. That’s one of the things I liked about Matt Reeves and I—we’re both obsessive. So as long as we can make something we care about, you know. Yeah.”
Dano spoke in detail about his connection to the character. He said, “This was a guy who was an orphan like Bruce Wayne… who had a really traumatic upbringing, you know, and I think was obviously unwell.” He continued, “What I really liked about this was what he thought was his connection to the Batman, that there was somebody else like me. I liked that sort of twist on it.”
He also discussed his creative involvement with the character beyond acting. Dano said, “I wrote, you know, a comic afterwards that came out and I felt very invested in the world.” The six-issue comic prequel explores Edward Nashton’s past and motivations. It depicts Nashton’s orphaning and his belief that the Wayne family and Carmine Falcone caused his parents’ deaths.
Dano described how he approached the character with depth and personal interpretation. He explained the emotional link Nashton believed he shared with Batman and how that bond eventually felt broken. He said, “The villain, the bad guy saw himself… in line with the hero and sort of gets his heart broken.”
Dano did not confirm any plans for a series but expressed clear interest. He concluded, “If we can do something really good… as long as we can make something we care about.”
