Prime Video’s God of War series has made a new cast addition for the role of Odin, prompting viewers to share their reactions after the actor for the Norse god was revealed for the live-action adaptation.
God of War fans have the same reaction over Odin’s casting
Prime Video’s live-action adaptation of God of War has officially cast Mandy Patinkin as Odin and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor. The casting expands the narrative of God of War: Ragnarok, the 2022 installment of the game franchise. Odin serves as the central antagonist, seeking to survive the end of the world known as Ragnarok. Thor plays a pivotal role in the story as both a father and avenger, responding to the deaths of gods at the hands of Kratos and Atreus.
Mandy Patinkin gained recognition for his role as Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride. He brings extensive experience to his portrayal of Odin. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson earned recognition for playing Mr. Drummond in Severance.
He will portray a version of Thor that aligns more closely with Norse mythology than the Marvel Cinematic Universe version. In the game, Kratos and Atreus kill Thor’s brother. This act sets the events of Ragnarok in motion and draws the wrath of Odin and the Aesir gods.
