The opening scene of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 2 sparked immediate reactions from viewers. It took a more graphic approach than many expected. The latest installment drew comparisons to the franchise’s past shock moments, and fans responded quickly to the unexpected start.
Fans react as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms goes a step beyond poop scene
Episode 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, titled “Hard Salt Beef,” extends with a flashback of Ser Arlan of Pennytree exiting a cabin and urinating outside.
The scene includes full frontal nudity and shows Ser Arlan mid-stream in full view. This follows episode 1, which opened with a controversial defecation scene involving Ser Duncan the Tall, continuing a pattern of graphic cold opens in the series.
Showrunner Ira Parker explained that the decision to include the full-frontal shot was intentional. “The reason Ser Arlan has what he has is because we spend the whole episode taking a s–t on him,” he said.
Parker noted he wanted the character to have “one special thing,” acknowledging the moment was inspired by the film Boogie Nights. When asked whether actor Danny Webb used a prosthetic, Parker said, “Was that a prosthetic? I forget,” and added, “I thought he just showed up on set in that condition.”
The moment quickly gained attention online. One user wrote, “The first minute of A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms episode 2,” attaching a reaction clip. Another added, “POV: you clicked play on episode 2 of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms.”
A third user said, “That opening for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms wasn’t what I was expecting,” and another commented, “A knight of the seven kingdoms. ‘More lighthearted…maybe for a slightly younger audience.’ 30 seconds into episode 2….”
Parker contrasted the show’s comedic use of nudity with the original series, Game of Thrones, where such scenes were often played for shock or drama. Author George R. R. Martin also reacted to the toilet humor in episode 1, stating, “What is this? Where did this come from? I don’t know if we really need the s–t” (via The Hollywood Reporter).
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently streaming on HBO Max.
