Critical reviews for Marvel Television‘s latest venture, Wonder Man, have surfaced ahead of its Disney+ premiere, praising the unique storytelling structure and performances among other aspects.
Thanks to these reviews, the new superhero series has garnered an impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes. The show follows Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery, both of whom try to nab parts in Hollywood’s remake of the superhero film, Wonder Man.
What critics are saying about Wonder Man
Critical reviews for Wonder Man are primarily positive, with critics lauding the series’s approach to grounded storytelling and the performances, most notably Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s portrayal of the eponymous protagonist.
SlashFilm‘s BJ Colangelo called Wonder Man “Marvel’s love letter to struggling actors” and stressed that the series gave him “genuine hope” for Marvel’s future. He added that through the show’s “more intimate” storytelling, Marvel reminded audiences that “heroes [mattered] most when they feel human first, and super second.”
Meanwhile, RIOTUS‘ Julian Lytle considered the series “very well-made [and] quirky.” He added that although it “[worked] better without all the MCU trimmings,” he “[wished] it were longer.” He also expressed hope that Abdul-Mateen II’s Simon Williams would show up “sooner rather than later” when it comes to future MCU projects.
ComicBookMovie‘s Josh Wilding wrote in his review, “Yahya Abdul-Mateen II steals the show in this delightfully original two-hander about friendship, acting, and being true to yourself.” Further, he labeled the series “the cure to superhero fatigue and the most original MCU TV series since WandaVision.”
Meanwhile, ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim gave the series a score of 6/10, deeming it “decent.” He called the show’s “central hook genuinely interesting” and praised the “evolving friendship” between Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slaterry — which he opined gave the show “its most effective moments.” However, he noted that the series “fails to reach its full potential and is a run-of-the-mill experience.”

Destin Daniel Cretton, who helmed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, co-created the series with Andrew Guest.
Besides Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, the show features the talents of Demetrius Grosse, Lauren Glazier, X Mayo, Zlatko Buric, and Arian Moayed, among others.
All eight episodes of Wonder Man hit Disney+ on January 27, 2026.
