Bruce Bruce’s new stand-up comedy special I Ain’t Playin’ will premiere on Netflix on March 3, according to Deadline. The hour-long special, filmed at the Old Vic Theater in Chicago, marks his first release for any platform in 14 years and his debut for Netflix.
The special features Bruce Bruce’s signature observational comedy on generational shifts and social behavior. “Millennials mad, Gen Z confused, Gen Alpha running the house… and I’m standing in the middle watching it all,” he said. “‘I Ain’t Playin’ is me calling it how I see it.”
Bruce Church, known professionally as Bruce Bruce, launched his comedy career in Atlanta, Georgia. He started after making his coworkers laugh while working as a Frito-Lay salesman. The company hired him to perform at corporate meetings. That opportunity led him to pursue stand-up full-time. He gained national attention with his 1993 appearance on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and later performed on Showtime at the Apollo.
Bruce Bruce released the stand-up specials Bruce Bruce Live (2003) and Losin’ It (2011). He hosted BET’s ComicView from 2000 to 2002 and Coming to the Stage in 2004. His acting credits include roles in Top Five, xXx: State of the Union, Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector, Idlewild, and Undercover Brother 2. He also appeared in music videos and collaborated with artists such as Outkast and the Ying Yang Twins.
He toured with comedians including Mike Epps, Martin Lawrence, and Bert Kreischer. In 2005, he published his memoir Baby James Brown through Penguin. UTA represents him, and Adam Williamson manages his career.
