John Hoffman has offered new insight into what fans can expect from Only Murders in the Building Season 6. The co-creator discussed how the upcoming chapter will unfold in London. He also teased how the change in setting will shape the mystery surrounding Cinda Canning’s death.
John Hoffman on how London setting will influence Only Murders in the Building Season 6
In an interview with Deadline, Only Murders in the Building co-creator John Hoffman confirmed that Season 6 will film entirely in London, marking the first time the Hulu series moves production outside New York. He described the city as “New York’s sister city,” adding, “There will be all sorts of connectors. We will take our storytelling and steep it into this new culture and our trio will be fish in new waters.” The shift follows the Season 5 finale, which ended with the death of Cinda Canning, played by Tina Fey.
Hoffman said the next season will explore that mystery overseas, explaining, “After that three-month jump in the episode, it’s always that vacuum of like for a trio looking at, you know, what now? What next? Where do we go? The character of Cinda started everything, so we’re going back to the beginning.” He added that Cinda’s move to England opens “an opportunity to tease something that opens up a whole new mystery in the home of the cozy murder mystery, which felt very exciting.”
Season 5 revealed that Mayor Beau Tillman, played by Keegan-Michael Key, was responsible for killing Arconia doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca). The finale revealed Nicky Caccimelio (Bobby Cannavale) and Lester’s deaths during a deadly night at the Arconia casino. The events tied together political corruption and personal revenge.
Hoffman said the new storyline will again mix crime and humor while adding fresh dynamics between Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez). He confirmed that filming will not take place in New York. London will serve as the sole setting for Season 6’s investigation into Cinda’s mysterious death.
