ABC Renews 7 Shows, Cancels Not Dead Yet

ABC has renewed a handful of its unscripted shows for the 2024-2025 TV season, according to Variety. However, the Alphabet network has canceled the Gina Rodriguez-led Not Dead Yet, leaving the network with only two comedies at the moment: Abbott Elementary and The Conners, which has been renewed for its seventh and final season.

Not Dead Yet, contrary to its title, has ultimately met its demise after only two seasons. The comedy, created by David Windsor and Casey Johnson, reportedly failed to deliver a sufficient number of viewers for it to warrant a Season 3 renewal.

The series follows Nell Serrano (Rodriguez), a journalist assigned to write obituaries. However, “she can see the dead people she’s tasked with writing about, and they don’t hesitate to give her life advice.” The cast also includes Rick Glassman, Hannah Simone, Lauren Ash, Joshua Banday, Angela E. Gibbs, and Brad Garrett.

All two seasons of Not Dead Yet are available to stream on Disney+

What are the shows returning for another season?

ABC has decided to renew most of its unscripted shows, including The Bachelor (now entering its 29th season) and American Idol, whose longtime host, Katy Perry, left the show earlier this year after seven seasons. American Idol will be entering its eighth season on ABC. This marks the 23rd season overall for the singing competition series, including its run on Fox.

Meanwhile, the network also renewed Dancing with the Stars, which is now poised for its 33rd season. Other recently renewed shows include Shark Tank (returning for Season 16), Celebrity Jeopardy! (returning for Season 3), Celebrity Wheel of Fortune (returning for its fifth edition), and What Would You Do? (returning for its 17th season).

The fates of The Chase, $100,000 Pyramid, Generation Gap, The Parent Test, and The Prank Panel will be determined at a later date, per Variety.
