One of the stars of the Curb Your Enthusiasm series finale has revealed which scene was the final one to be shot of the Larry David comedy series.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, series star Susie Essman — alongside writer and director Jeff Schaffer — spoke about last night’s series finale and what it was like to film the conclusion to the long-running series. The duo revealed that the final scene to be shot was indeed the final scene in the series, which showed Larry and several of his closest friends from throughout the show bickering on an airplane about a raised window shade.
“Yes, that was the last thing we shot in the final season,” Essman said.
“I remember when [wife] Jackie [Schaffer] and I were in the final season of The League, we were talking to Matthew Weiner about the finale of Mad Men and he said one of his big regrets was that the final shooting scene of Mad Men didn’t have all the cast together,” Schaffer stated. “So we we really remembered that. It was very important here that the final day whatever it was had all of our cast together to celebrate an amazing accomplishment.”
“It’s the family. It’s an ensemble,” Essman concluded. “It’s Larry’s show, but we’re his show family. And especially when you’re improvising, you really have to have tremendous trust and respect for each other.”
When did Curb Your Enthusiasm begin?
Originally released in 2000, Curb Your Enthusiasm was created by Larry David (Seinfeld), who stars in the series as a semi-fictionalized version of himself. The series has been critically praised from its inception and has been nominated for 51 Emmy Awards in total.
The show originally aired for eight seasons and ended in 2011 before picking back up again in 2017 for a ninth season. The 10th season released in 2020, which was followed by the 11th in 2021.
