Richard Lewis Dies, Comedian & Curb Your Enthusiasm Star Was 76

Richard Lewis, an iconic comedian and one of the stars of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, has passed away at the age of 76.

Deadline confirmed Lewis’ passing with his publicist, Jeff Abraham. The outlet reported that Lewis died after having a heart attack in his home last night.

“His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time,” Abraham said to the outlet.

Though he revealed last April that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and was retiring from stand-up comedy, Lewis had just appeared in the currently ongoing twelfth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. He once again played the fictionalized version of himself in the Larry David-created series, which he’d done since the series’ debut in 2000.

Other notable roles of Lewis’ include that of the villainous Prince John in Mel Brooks’ 1993 comedy Robin Hood: Men in Tights and the part of Marty Gold in the ABC sitcom Anything but Love, which he co-starred in alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. He was also a frequent guest on many iconic late night shows, including Late Night with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

ComingSoon sends condolences to Lewis’ friends and family during this trying time.
