The White Lotus’ Will Sharpe Cast as Mozart in Sky TV Series

Will Sharpe has been cast as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Amadeus, Deadline reported Tuesday. Joe Barton’s TV series depicts a reimagining of the legendary composer’s life from Sky Studios in association with Two Cities Television. Sky described Amadeus as “fresh, intimate and irreverent, and will feel at times in the hands of the characters themselves.”

Sharpe gained notoriety as Ethan Spiller on The White Lotus Season 2, receiving acting nominations at the Emmys and BAFTA TV Awards. Sharpe previously collaborated with Barton on Girl/Haji, the British crime drama that aired on BBC Two and Netflix.

Sharpe had a supporting role in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain, which debuted to positive reviews at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Upcoming roles for Sharpe include Too Much, a Netflix rom-com from Lena Dunham, and Emmanuelle, an erotic drama from Audrey Diwan. Sharpe will also direct the film adaptation of Crying in H Mart.

What to Expect in Amadeus?

“Adapted from Peter Shaffer’s stage play, Amadeus is set within the musical hub of bustling Vienna at the end of the 18th century, as the 25-year-old titular character arrives in the city no longer a child and determined to carve his own path,” the official synopsis reads. “Recently unemployed and without the management of his father, Amadeus finds an unlikely ally in a young singer who will become his wife, the fiery Constanze Weber Mozart. Her connections help bring him into the orbit of the court composer Antonio Salieri, setting the three of them on a collision course that will ultimately define their lives and legacies for years to come.”

Production on Amadeus is expected to begin later this year. No other casting announcements have been made at this time.

Barton, who will executive produce alongside Sharpe, has two Netflix projects set for a 2024 release: The Union, an action thriller with Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, and Black Doves, a spy series starring Keira Knightley.

Julian Farino, who helmed five episodes of Girl/Haji, will executive produce the series with Paul Gilbert, Megan Spanjian, Michael Jackson, and Stephen Wright. Farino and Alice Seabright will direct Amadeus.
