Kate Hudson to Lead Mindy Kaling’s Workplace Comedy Series for Netflix

Netflix confirmed that Oscar nominee Kate Hudson has officially signed on for the leading role in an untitled Lakers-inspired workplace comedy series, which hails from Emmy nominee Mindy Kaling.

Hudson will be playing the role of Isla Gordon, who grew up with competitive brothers. She gets a chance to finally become a part of the family business after she gets unexpectedly appointed as the President of a basketball franchise.

This marks Hudson’s first major TV project as the solo lead, after making appearances in shows like Glee and Truth Be Told.

What is Mindy Kaling’s next Netflix series about?

“When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business,” reads the logline. “Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”

The untitled series is written and executive produced by Mindy Kaling (Never Have I Ever), Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, with the latter also serving as the showrunner.

Executive producers are Hudson, Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis, with Jordan Rambis producing.
