Chuck E. Cheese Television Series Based on Restaurant Chain Now in Development

A Chuck E. Cheese reality television series is now in development.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Magical Elves, a production company that’s worked on shows such as Top Chef and Project Runway, is now developing a reality television series based on the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant chain.

The description of the series reads, “The format will feature stand-alone comedic physical challenges where duos of ‘big kids’ (a.k.a. adults) will compete over supersized arcade games — including pinball, air hockey, alley roller, and the human claw.  The top ticket-earning duo will get the chance to exchange their tickets for prizes off the massive version of the iconic Chuck E. Cheese prize wall.”

“Chuck E. Cheese is THE place where a kid can be a kid – but as grown adults, we still have dreams of ruling the arcade, taking on the iconic games we love!” said Magical Elves co-CEOs Jo Sharon and Casey Kriley. “We’re excited to celebrate these legendary arcade games plus the best of today, all with a super-sized twist.”

Charles Entertainment Cheese: The rat, the myth, the legend

Chuck E. Cheese was founded in 1977 by Nolan Bushnell in San Jose, California. A family restaurant that’s known for its arcade games and pizza, Chuck E. Cheese is also famous for its animatronic shows featuring characters such as Charles “Chuck” Entertainment Cheese, Helen Henny, Mr. Munch, Jasper T. Jowls, Pasqually, and Bella Bunny.

In 2012, Chuck E. Cheese rebranded as the rat mascot fans know and love was given an altered appearance and an electric guitar.

Around the same time, the company began moving away from animatronic shows before it was announced they were being removed from every Chuck E. Cheese location in 2017. Now, only one Chuck E. Cheese restaurant located in Northridge, California, has an animatronic stage for cyberamic shows.

The Chuck E. Cheese reality television series does not yet have a premiere date.
