Nightmares & Daydreams Image Previews Netflix Supernatural Thriller From Satan’s Slaves Director

Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar unveiled the first-look image for his upcoming supernatural thriller project with Netflix — titled Nightmares & Daydreams — via X (formerly Twitter.)

In 2022, Deadline announced a slew of Indonesian projects coming to the streamer, one of which includes Anwar’s forthcoming Nightmares & Daydreams. The huge slate, which reportedly consists of seven films and television shows, is made up of work from leading Indonesian talents. It includes Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes For Us) and Kamila Andini (Before, Now & Then).

A filmmaker known for his distinct style of filmmaking, Anwar’s directorial credits include Dead Time (2007), The Forbidden Door (2009), Ritual (2012), Satan’s Slaves (2017), Impetigore (2019), and Satan’s Slaves 2: Communion (2022). He has also written and directed some episodes on two HBO Asia shows, including the dark fantasy thriller Halfworlds and the horror anthology series Folklore.

With Nightmares & Daydreams serving as his newest project — with Netflix, no less — the newly shared image promises yet another stylish and creepy work from the Indonesian director. You can check out the first-look image down below:

What is Nightmares & Daydreams about?

“A supernatural thriller series that shows there isn’t necessarily a rational explanation behind every occurrence,” the logline for Nightmares & Daydreams reads.

Apart from announcing the Indonesian slate coming viewers’ way soon, Deadline also reported that Anwar’s Netflix project will have multiple storylines following various ordinary people and their own experiences of strange and eerie encounters.

“Indonesia is so full of unique and extraordinary stories. I’m always excited to have the chance to bring these stories to a wider audience,” Anwar told the outlet.

Besides Nightmares & Daydreams, other Indonesian offerings included on the announcement include The Big 4, Gadis Kretek, and Dear David. Nightmares & Daydreams won’t be Anwar’s latest project either, as he also has an upcoming horror film from Come and See Pictures, inspired by his 2012 short film, Siksa Kubur (Grave Torture).

There is no release date set yet for Nightmares & Daydreams, but Anwar has already teased that it will be gracing our screens “soon” enough.
