Squid Game: The Challenge Video Shows Series Creator Visiting Game Show Set

Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2 Ordered, Video Game in Development

Ahead of the Season 1 finale of Squid Game: The Challenge, Netflix announced that its newest reality competition series has officially received an early Season 2 renewal. Casting for Season 2 is now currently underway. This comes after Squid Game: The Challenge earned a spot on streamer’s Top 10 list in 93 countries.

“There was no red light in our decision to greenlight season two of Squid Game: The Challenge, the most ambitious unscripted show we’ve premiered at Netflix,” Netflix VP of Nonfiction Series Brandon Riegg said in a statement. “We’re so excited to continue the franchise of Squid Game with our team in Korea and producers at Studio Lambert and The Garden for this epic competition series.”

In addition to the official confirmation of Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2, Netflix has also revealed that they’re currently developing a video game set within the Squid Game Universe. The untitled game will allow players to compete with friends in games that were seen in the series.

What is Squid Game: The Challenge?

Squid Game: The Challenge is executive produced by Nicola Brown, Tim Harcourt, John Hay, Toni Ireland, Anna Kidd, and Stephen Lambert. It hails from Studio Lambert (The Circle) and The Garden (24 Hours in A&E), part of ITV Studios.

“456 real players will enter the competition show in pursuit of a life-changing reward of USD $4.56 million,” reads the synopsis. “As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show – plus surprising new additions – their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them.”

The original South Korean drama is currently filming its second season, with Lee Jung-jae, Wi Ha-joon, Gong Yoo, and Lee Byung-hun reprising their respective roles. Joining them is a star-studded ensemble cast consisting of Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Jo Yu-ri, Park Gyu-young, and more. Season 1 made history by becoming the first non-English show to receive four major SAG nominations, with Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-yeon winning Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor.
