Dr. Wolf: Zachary Quinto Medical Drama Ordered at NBC

NBC has officially granted a series order to the medical drama Dr. Wolf, inspired by the life and work of famous neurologist Oliver Sacks. The project will be led by American Horror Story vet Zachary Quinto, who’s set to portray the titular neurologist.

Quinto is best known for his role as Spock in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movies. He received his first Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Asylum. The upcoming series marks Quinto’s first major TV project in three years since starring in AMC’s supernatural series NOS4A2, which only ran for two seasons.

What to expect in Dr. Wolf?

“Inspired by Oliver Sacks’ extraordinary life and work, the series follows revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist Oliver Wolf (Quinto) and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier – the human mind – while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health,” reads the logline.

Dr. Wolf is executive produced by writer Michael Grassi and director Lee Toland Krieger. It is also based on Sacks’ two books titled The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and An Anthropologist on Mars. Sacks’ life also inspired 1990’s Oscar-nominated drama film Awakenings, starring Robin Williams and Robert De Niro.

Joining Quinto are Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alexander MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, and Teddy Sears. The series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Henrik Bastin, Melissa Aouate, Andy Serkis, Jonathan Cavendish, Will Tennant, and DeMane Davis.

It hails from Berlanti Productions, Fabel Entertainment and The Imaginarium in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
