The Great Canceled by Hulu After Season 3

Hulu has canceled the popular Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult-led series The Great after it ran for three seasons on the streaming platform.

Deadline revealed that the Emmy-nominated series has been canceled for reasons currently unknown. The series had earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, while Fanning won several other awards for her portrayal of Catherine the Great. The third season premiered just this past May and revolved around the main couple, Catherine and Peter, trying to work on their marriage. The outlet noted that Hulu declined to comment on the cancellation.

What was The Great about?

The Great was a satirical, comedic drama centered around the rise of Catherine the Great through 18th Century Russia from outsider to the longest-reigning female ruler in Russia’s history. It was led by Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult, who earned Golden Globe nominations for their leading performances in the second season. The series also starred Phoebe Fox as Marial, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee as Grigor, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, and Sacha Dhawan.

The Great was written and executive produced by Tony McNamara (The Favourite) with Matt Shakman (Game Of Thrones) serving as the director. Fanning and Marian Macgowan also served as executive producers.
