Obi-Wan Kenobi Director Says Ewan McGregor Has Ideas for Potential Season 2

Obi-Wan Kenobi Director: Ewan McGregor Has Ideas for Season 2

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Obi-Wan Kenobi director and executive producer Deborah Chow has addressed the future of the Star Wars series, revealing that franchise vet Ewan McGregor is eager to reprise the titular Jedi master again. Chow shared that McGregor started pitching her ideas for a potential Season 2 right after they wrapped filming the first installment.

“As Ewan and I finished our very last shot on second unit and I was literally taking off my headphones, he was already pitching me ideas for season two,” she recalled. “There’s another 10 years with plenty of stories, and I don’t think it’s off the board. It is a ‘never say never’ situation, but we really did conceive this to be a limited series.”

Who was in Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 1?

Season 1, which is currently available for streaming on Disney+, saw the return of Ewan McGregor to the Star Wars universe, as he reprised his iconic role as the titular Jedi master after famously playing the beloved character in George Lucas’ prequel trilogy. He was joined by fellow Star War alums including Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, and Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars.

The first installment also welcomed franchise newcomers Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (Homeland), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Sung Kang (F9: The Fast Saga), Simone Kessell (Of Kings and Prophets), and Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems).

Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 1 was set 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, “where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”
