The Continental Photos Preview John Wick Prequel Series

Peacock has dropped the first batch of The Continental photos for the upcoming three-part prequel series to the blockbuster John Wick film franchise. The photos provide fans a first look at the main cast including the young versions of Winston and Charon. It is scheduled to make its debut on September 2023, on Peacock and Starz in the U.S. and internationally on Prime Video.

According to a statement by executive producer Basil Iwanyk, the limited drama will give John Wick fans a chance to get to know more about Winston and Charon, as well as the story of how The Continental became the epicenter of the franchise.

“The four Wick films take place over a 3 month span. John is either chasing, or being chased. There has been no time to take a breath, to allow the audience to dig deeper into the world and its denizens,” Iwanyk said. “In our show, The Continental, we finally have space to explore these characters, how they became who they are, and how The Continental became the epicenter of this world. Combine that with introducing new characters that are as compelling as any in the John Wick universe. Action that’s crazy cool and inventive. Easter eggs that will excite the hardcore Wick fans. And what I love the most: a vision of ‘70s New York that embodies the sexiness, edginess, and visceral style that the franchise is known for. This show will look/sound/smell cooler than any show out there.”

Who’s the Cast of The Continental?

The Continental will star Colin Woodell as the young Winston, newcomer Ayomide Adegun as the young Charon, Mel Gibson as Cormac, Hubert Point-Du Jour as Miles, Jessica Allain as Lou, Mishel Prada as KD, Nhung Kate as Yen, Ben Robson as Frankie, Peter Greene as Uncle Charlie, Jeremy Bobb as Mayhew, Ray McKinnon as Jenkins, Adam Shapiro as Lemmy, Mark Musashi as Hansel, Marina Mazepa as Gretel, and Katie McGrath as The Adjudicator.

“Set 40 years before the events of the films, the upcoming prequel spin-off centers around a young man named Winston, who will one day grow up to be the character played by Ian McShane in the Wick movies,” reads the synopsis. “In the prequel set against the backdrop of 1970s New York, fans will find a young Winston as an up-and-coming hitman hotelier who, along with others, creates a haven for unsavory types.”

The titular hotel was introduced in the first installment of the John Wick films as a safe haven for assassins and has been a primary location in the franchise. Each installment of the event series is expected to be 90 minutes long and will premiere over the course of three consecutive nights.

The Continental was first announced in 2017 by franchise creators Chad Stahelski and Derek Kolstad. It is being executive produced by Greg Coolidge and Kirk Ward, who are serving as showrunners. Executive producers are Kolstad, Stahelski, Basil Iwanyk, David Leitch, Shawn Simmons, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese, and Erica Lee.
