Doctor Who Season 14 Cast Adds Game of Thrones’ Indira Varma

Game of Thrones vet Indira Varma has officially been tapped to join the Doctor Who Season 14 cast for BBC’s next installment of the long-running sci-fi drama. Varma is set to portray the mysterious role of The Duchess. Before landing Doctor Who, she made her Star Wars debut last year in Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Varma is also currently attached to star in two high-profile projects including upcoming Max shows such as Creature Commandos as the voice of Bride of Frankenstein and Dune: The Sisterhood as Empress Natalya.

“I’m thrilled to be in Doctor Who and particularly excited to be crossing cosmic paths with Ncuti, as the Doctor, and look forward to creating interplanetary mischief with him,” Varma said in a statement (via Deadline). “I loved playing Suzie Costello for Russell T Davies in Torchwood so am thrilled to be entering this world again.”

Who’s the Cast of Doctor Who Season 14?

Varma will be joining previously announced cast members Neil Patrick Harris, Millie Gibson, Jonathan Groff, and Ncuti Gatwa, who is replacing Jodie Whittaker as the franchise’s fifteenth titular Time Lord.

Doctor Who Season 14 hails from showrunner Russell T. Davies. This marks Gatwa’s first major TV project as the titular lead, making him as the first-ever Black actor to portray the iconic character in the history of the franchise.

Before the next season premieres in 2024, three new special episodes will first debut this year as part of the show’s 60th anniversary celebration. It will premiere on the BBC and Disney+ beginning in November 2023 for fans all over the world. The specials will feature the return of Doctor Who vet David Tennant as the fourteenth Doctor.
