Twilight TV Show in Development from Lionsgate

The Twilight Saga is coming back, with a Twilight TV show based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling book series in early development, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Currently, no real information on the Twilight TV show is known, with the series still being described as “in its infancy” and not having a network or platform. What is known is that Sinead Daly (Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond) will write the script and is working with Lionsgate to determine the exact route they’ll take. There is still not any timeline for when the new series would be put in front of potential bidders either, with THR noting Lionsgate first plans to find a writer to lead the show before moving onto any next steps.

THR’s report also mentions that author Stephenie Meyer is expected to be involved in the adaptation, with Wyck Godfrey and former Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erik Feig also attached as executive producers.

Originally released as a four fantasy romance novels (with two companion novels and a novella coming out after), the Twilight series stems from Stephenie Meyer and follows the story of Bella Swan, a girl who moves to Washington and falls in love with a 104-year-old vampire named Edward Cullen.

The book series — which began in 2005 — was later turned into a series of five films starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, all of which were massive successes for Lionsgate. In total, the series earned more than $1.3 billion at the North American box office, and $3.3 billion at the worldwide box office, becoming one of the highest-earning franchises in film history.
